Bike Little Havana

Bike Little Havana
How to best explore the neighborhood on two wheels

Little Havana is a fun place to explore on bike, with its bungalow and Mediterranean architecture, its outstanding views of downtown, and its colorful street scenes.

Enjoy a bike ride ... and even bike polo!

I'm excited that Little Havana continues to become more bike friendly, with the recent addition of new bike stands and lanes. Are you a cyclist who lives or bikes in Little Havana? Please take an active role in helping us become even more attractive to cyclists!

Below I list some fun biking activities you may want to know about. Also see my article on biking to Little Havana, which includes information on recommended streets for cycling in the neighborhood.

There are many other streets you may want to explore. Bike Miami has a suggested bike route for exploring Little Havana. Bike & Roll Miami, a rental store and bike tour company with locations in Bayside Marketplace and Miami Beach, offers a self-guided bike tour of Little Havana.
Mass Bike Rides

Want to experience a ride through Little Havana with hundreds of other cyclists at the same time? Visit Miami's critical Mass Facebook group to find out when they’re doing a bike ride through Little Havana.

Often the group rides en masse down Calle Ocho during the monthly arts and culture festival, Viernes Culturales. Lots of fun  and visitors can join in! We've had nearly 900 cyclists at a time rolling down the street.

We're also excited that Bike Polo competitions are now taking place weekly in Little Havana.

Bike Polo

Little Havana may not seem like the neighborhood that would host  of all pastimes bike polo, but sure enough, it's ground zero for local enthusiasts and the creators of Miami Bike Polo.

The team sport is played in various local parks on Friday evenings, except on the last Friday of the month, and on Sundays at 1 pm. A monthly BBQ also takes place after one of the Sunday games. The usual parks for bike polo include Riverside Park, Henderson Park and Jose Marti Park.

Last Fridays are reserved for Critical Mass bike rides I already mentioned, when more than a thousand cyclists throng Calle Ocho during their mass ride through Miami neighborhoods. Can't miss that!

Bike polo resembles traditional polo except that players sit atop bikes, not horses. The Little Havana players participate in "hardcourt bike polo" or "urban bike polo." While on bikes, teams of three players use their mallets to strike a street hockey ball across a goal line. The game is fast and fun.
